Sports for Health 2022 - Pending venue

Held at Land of the Vikings 1978 - 2019

Sports for Health

Some say the pandemic is over. Others continue to have concerns. Either way, we still have no venue at which to hold a summer program. Through the pandemic year of 2020 and the follow-on waves of infection in 2021, we have not been able to conduct an honest search that would, with any hope, yield an experience worthy of a participant’s travel effort. Moreover, we must find a venue which is supported by public transportation. The pandemic shutdown the only bus transportation from New York to our “pick up” site for the event. Our goal is to resume a Sports For Health event in an acceptable venue which supports our activities AND be healthy in its conduct. Stay tuned.

Land of the Vikings

This is where we held our events. Land of the Vikings (LOV) was the cultural and recreational center of the Sons of Norway – District Three. Land of the Vikings is located on 150 acres in a peaceful valley in Northeastern Pennsylvania and is surrounded by 5000 acres of state game land.

Sons of Norway – District Three could no longer sustain LOV operations and was going to shutter the lodge mid summer 2020.  The impact of government mandated shutdowns brought about by the pandemic in early 2020 hastened the closing and canceled all activities.

For more than 30 years, LOV had been the site of Sports for Health and Ski for Light events. With heavy hearts we bid farewell to a treasured venue. But we will recall with fondness the picturesque landscape, rustic charm, and wonderful memories of shared activities in the lodge and on the surrounding trails.
